Liver Disease/Thrombosis Project Up and Running

After several years of collecting cases, the Liver Disease/Thrombosis Project is underway.

For years the SDCA Health and Genetics Committee has been hearing about dogs that have had liver disease and/or blood clots (thrombi) in their liver or spleen. There have been many similarities among these cases.

Last year, the number of cases and financial means both fell into line, and we also found an expert to read the slides collected. We should have the first data from the study in late 2025. Here are the pages about this condition and project that have been added to the website:

Here is the page that describes the condition.

Here is the page that describes the research project.

Here is the page that describes the samples needed. We need samples from dogs with a congenital liver shunt, liver disease and/or thrombi, and healthy dogs who had no liver disease detected.

If you have had a dog with a congenital liver shunt or liver disease and/or thrombi, we hope you will participate. The more dogs we study, the more we will learn about this condition.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
