Some Deerhounds get repeated bouts of pneumonia. We have posted more information about this condition and are looking for case notes so we can start to gather information on this condition.
Although Deerhounds, like any dog, can get pneumonia, some Deerhounds have regular recurrences of this serious disease. We have added some new pages, both to help owners and to help the Health & Genetics Committee gather information on this condition:
This page describes what recurrent pneumonia looks like and what owners have done to treat it. Based on many owners’ personal experiences, it offers practical tips.
There is no official research project at this time, but we have begun to collect case information to see if any common threads emerge that might inform a research plan. Here is what we are looking for from affected dogs, and this page provides a link to get samples to our CHIC DNA Bank, because it is important that we have DNA from affected dogs in case a genetic variant is found for this disease.
